Helicopter spies car thief through thermal image(January 07, 2009)
THE crime wave that is threatening the Warminster area shows no signs of abating as a thief took a car yesterday and ended up being chased by the county police helicopter, writes Paul Macdonald.
At just before 6pm on Monday evening the aircraft was scrambled from its base at Devizes to assist in locating the offenders. The suspects had fled from the stolen vehicle.
After an aerial search using highly specialised thermal imaging monitored by the police observer a suspect was found within 30 minutes from take-off.
Officers on the ground were directed to the suspect who was walking along a track.
This incident comes just one week after the helicopter was scrambled to a break-in at Currys in the Market Place
