Rowboating Mayor Ambushes Council
(May 15, 2017)Newly elected Warminster Conservative Town Mayor Rob Fryer ambushed the 13 strong council announcing the return of the controversial costly civic reception following the ‘blue tide’ that swept party politicians once again into control.
His shock announcement, at the first meeting after the local elections, coincides with the appointment of another Tory to the role of his deputy, has not gone down well with an Independent councillor.
“I was astonished that he used his acceptance speech to announce this,” said Councillor Paul Macdonald.
“How on earth can he demand this as town mayor when it is the talk of the town how our council has increased the rent for the foodbank at Dewey House.
“It is unbelievable that he is proposing feeding those who in most cases represent organisations and individuals that certainly do not need a sumptuous meal and a lot of pomp and circumstance.
As a result the town council meeting attended by over 20 members of the public saw another minor rebellion against convention by Cllr. Macdonald.
“I decided not to support any more party political proposals including Tony Nicklin for deputy mayor after hearing what the Mayor had to say. I abstained.
“I may have missed it but I do not think the new Mayor even announced his charity for the year.
“His final major priority was to be in the first rowboat when they return to the town park.
“The Tories just seemed so full of themselves. I hope to remind them that there are serious issues ahead.”
