Poundland Numbers Do Not Stack Up

(August 04, 2020)

The market town of Warminster has borne the impact of the Covid-19 economic challenge to its commercial enterprises with shops, both small and independent, and national outlets enjoying a huge amount of support from its residents but one is closing down

At the very heart of the town sits the Three Horseshoes Walk which is fairly unique in having no empty shop fronts with many doors open to the public again.

One of its popular stores, Poundland, has confirmed it will be closing in August as rent negotiations with the landlord have not gone smoothly.

The company had been successful in other towns with other landlords in getting help with dealing with difficult trading conditions.

"We're as disappointed as our colleagues and customers to be closing our Warminster store on 15 August. It's a great place and we'd love to return,” said a Poundland spokesperson at the weekend.

“We’ve been unable to reach a rental agreement on the renewal of the lease on the store at Three Horseshoes Walk.

“Unlike the majority of our landlords, the landlord refuses to accept that the retail property market has changed dramatically as a result of Covid 19 and will not accept monthly rent in arrears.

“This means the numbers simply don’t stack up even for a growing retailer like us.”
