Veteran Councillor Return Is Needed
(April 14, 2021)The local elections in Warminster produced a big surprise with the name of John Syme that has appeared on the ballot papers to challenge the Tory stronghold on the town council.
The veteran successful former councillor is back in town and is taking on the political parties to represent residents of the Broadway ward at county Hall again.
"Once again we are at local election time and on the first Thursday in May I offer you a choice by standing as your Independent candidate for the Warminster Town Council and Wiltshire Council in your area" said John.
"I previously represented this area starting in 1991 at three levels of local government for many years as a county, district and town councillor when one of the issues was flooding of Fore Street Rec and the Wylye Road estate."
John Syme took a last minute decision to put his name forward and in doing so means that the voters in the Broadway have a choice.
"I believe that the membership of local councils should not be based on politics where decisions are made by councillors from the same political party but by those that draw their wisdom from their community," explains John.
"As an Independent it allows me to express the views and opinions of the local people with the only leaders I have are you the electorate.
"The environment in and around the town needs protection if we are to prevent further destruction of greenfield sites.
"It is a big gripe of mine when I am told by existing councillors that there is nothing they can do. On issue after issue this seems to be the answer if a response is received at all.
"I know I can make a positive change to how we are all represented and I will give 100 per cent effort on our behalf and that of the whole town," added John.
