Well Recognised Resident Challenge

(April 18, 2021)

The Town and County council elections in Warminster East Ward will not be a foregone conclusion as a well recognised local resident has thrown his hat into the ring.

"Many of you will recognise me from my previous spells as a councillor representing you at the council offices in Warminster and before that in the chamber at Trowbridge in the past as a district councillor," said Paul

Paul 001b"During that time I played an important part in bringing the Crusader Park employment project to fruition and see that town once again faces the same issues as at that time.

"There is an imbalance in planning that needs to be urgently addressed."

Paul has put his name forward again having served as a town and district councillor in the distant and not to distant past.

"i am very concerned about what the town council and county council are doing because it is clear they are joined at the hip!"

Paul has a mission that needs to be achieved he claims.

"Too many houses being built but no sign of any employment opportunities being created for those, especially the young, who are living there and will be in the future.

"Resulting highways pressures will need very careful consideration including improved safety for cyclists, pedestrians and schoolchildren.

"Having worked and lived in the town for nearly all my adult life (since 1979) I have a strong awareness of what the town has to offer, its strengths, what it lacks, and what needs to be done by standing up for it at county hall."

As a former town and district councillor Pau did not just sit in the chambers of the council.

"My time as chair of the governors at a local school will come in useful for those of you who are parents and my time as a town councillor when I helped the town football club through its crisis showed my commitment to helping the efforts of those who make our town a good place to live.

"I have learned over the years that there is much wisdom amongst us all so I always listen.

"Too often I hear the public complain that councillors ignore them and do not them know what is happening until it is too late to have their say."

Paul believes he has an answer to this.

"There needs to be a portfolio holder for the things that residents have a right to be consulted about and all major spending decisions should go to a town wide public referendum."

Paul promises not to be unapproachable.

"I will also ensure that you receive a regular news letter keeping you in touchwith up to date news and how to contact me."
