Utilise and Re-invent The Wheel?

(April 28, 2021)

Three Warminster town councillors who represent the east were contacted by a resident who lives there about the move by them to resurrect a failed town centre project.

It was being discussed last Thursday at an extraordinary meeting that no-one appears to have known had been called except the councillors until stumbled upon by another resident.

Word soon spread on the grapevine and reached the ears of retired town librarian Nicola Harris.

Nicola Harris has agreed that we can publish her words which a councillor stopped from being read out. (Hot topic 27 April)

"I just feel we should utilise what we already have and reinvent the wheel.," said Nicola

'As my council representatives I wanted to tell you how I feel about the proposals you will be debating tonight,' Nicola wrote.

'Of the 3 options on the table I can see no reason why we are even considering the first two.

'Why do the council feel the need to purchase the old police station and where exactly is the money coming from?

'We are already paying for the Civic centre and should not be burdened with more on our Council tax.

'Now the Hub. Apart from ‘those in the know’ I believe if you ask majority of people where The Hub is in Warminster they will not know.

'To most of us this building is the Tourist Information centre though has not been used for this purpose for sometime.

'Why on earth do we need a central information and communication hub – pardon me but is that not what the Library does now?!!' Nicola argues.

'Go in the library – look around at the space on offer there. Leaflets, computers, staff trained to offer information and guidance from many sources.

'When I worked there it was very rare that a councillor was actually using the library as regular member so you can be forgiven for not knowing what is on offer.

'Please do not pour more money into a redundant building but support the vibrant building which is already there and working as an information centre.

So that only leaves option 3 and in my opinion this should be the one supported by our members.

'Yes the town needs investment but this can be done without saddling us with a mountain of debt for years to come and buildings which replicate each others roles.'
