Go Green Community Farm Excites Councillors

(July 13, 2021)

A presentation to find land to set up a community farm in Warminster has been given immediate backing by two town councillors.

Within days of their meeting Tabatha Lemin received the support of 100 others and is busy putting together a management team.

C Farm 003 (2)“Our ambition is to set up a community farm to offer fresh and home grown produce and eggs to the local community for free and to sell excess stock cheaply to local businesses,” said Tabatha.

“I have found a potential place for this to happen and have written to the landowner to inform them of the project.”

The plan is to use a ‘sustainable and eco-friendly’ approach to farming and also offer it as a resource for local schools to use.

“We want children and young adults to understand where food comes from and the benefits of nature.” added Tabatha.

The community farm will offer volunteers the chance to enjoy fresh air while learning new skills.

“I know a lot of people living in towns do not have gardens or gardens suitable for growing their own food or having chickens to provide their eggs for breakfast,” explained Tabatha.

The report presented to councillors Stacie Allensby and Paul Macdonald included the potential to invite the owners of pigs and goats to have days out on the farm for education and ground maintenance.

Horse owners could be invited to give horse riding lessons, animal husbandry and therapy.

“We aim to get all materials, technical help and labour from local tradesmen and through recycling,” added Tabatha.

“Collect cheap and free as much as possible, barter and exchange for goods and services.”

“This is a really good presentation and is something that has me really excited,” said Cllr. Stacie Allensby.

“This will be very popular. The place you have identified is perfect. If not then Paul and I will immediately look at other opportunities.”
