Camera Shy - No Vote
(April 15, 2024)There is an important election taking place next month. Poltical expedience or police experience. Police and Crime Comissioner Elections.
One problem is that this is undemocratic for a small but a growing minority in the market town in Wiltshire that I live and no doubt across the whole county.

How many do have not that this but are still law abiding residents? How much will it cost them to find a way to do this?
'Letter to the Editor of the Warminster Journal
Dear Editors
The first Thursday next month sees all voters in Wiltshire being invited to cast an important vote as poll cards are now dropping through their letter boxes.
It is a first in one way for all of us. How do we identify ourselves? I hope I can find a way.
Twenty three ways are listed. I do not have a biometric immigration document. I have a driving licence but it is just a paper one. The list goes on. Most apply to things like bus passes and other parts of the UK.
What is an EEA state? If I am a member of that I can vote. I am going to have to look that up.
There is something very important about this Police and Crime Commissioner election. It is the not 'first past the post' voting but something that should belong in the past.
The more modern way. We all have a second choice. It is called proportional representation. This election has four candidates. Not one hundred per cent happy with your first choice then take a look at the others.
One last observation. Postal voters. Too easy to treat as junk mail or just tick boxes when they arrive. The election runs for the next few weeks when candidates are able to argue their corner.
I hope you will take time to have a look and not cast your vote the day it arrives.
I am going to the polling station on Thursday May 2nd making sure I have read their ideas for improving policing in our county and in our town.
Yours faithfully
Paul Macdonald'
