Third time lucky for Broadway development ?
(February 14, 2009)A new stage is set to be reached on Broadway if developers get their latest play past councillors over the coming weeks, writes Paul Macdonald.
It will need to be third time lucky for a Walton-on Thames based concern who have ambitious plans to provide space for two more small shops and six 'living above the shop' flats-cum-maisonettes by the Broadway roundabout in Warminster.
Currently the local community are served by a mini-supermarket, hairdressers, traditional fish and chips shop and a oriental take-away.
Above these ground floor shops is just one first floor maisonette which at the moment is empty.
The new plans which replace two previous sets of ideas which started with 12 units of accommodation and turned down flat hope to deal with concerns that led to the refusals by planners at Trowbridge
They show extra ground floor retail space and four flats on the first floor and another two on an additional second floor.
A new layout to the service area behind the fish and chip shop shows space for 11 parking space, cycle racks and community bin area.
The frontage will get an environmental makeover providing trees and maybe some seats.
The changes also mean that the new living accommodation is about 60 feet from their nearest two neighbours at the start to Broxburn Road and Thornhill Road.
Agents for Blackpool & Capital in their written submission point out all the positive opportunities that go with the proposal but councillors in the past have not been happy with the height of the new look.
The plans can be looked at at the town council offices and will be first discussed by town councillors at their meeting next Monday week in Dewey House so that their views can be forwarded to the decision makers at the district council.
