Mauduit crusader gets the colour treatment.
(February 18, 2009)IT TOOK meeting after meeting and even made the agenda of full council but at last the Crusader can rest easy as it once again takes pride of place on the town council's headed notepaper, writes Paul Macdonald.
After a huge sheaf of papers was presented to councillors at their last major meeting they passed on taking a decision after councillor Rob Fryer, a well-known local printer, reminded them that perhaps they should leave it to the professionalsThey agreed and left it to the town clerk who has quickly got that advice and modernised the look.
Now the old black and white Warminster Town Council notepaper and compliments slips from 1974 has given way to a bit of colour (illustrated) complete with the town crest.
* The crest comes from the heraldry associated with the Mauduit family who owned the Manor of Newport in the early Middle Ages. The family owned many estates across the country and recently an ancient link with one was restored. In 2007 Walter Rindfleisch, who has Mauduit blood running through his veins, bought the lordship of the Manor of Grateley to re-establish the link between that village and the family broken more than 500 years ago.
