Play strategy 'I wish I knew what was happening'
(February 27, 2009)NO doubt many people will have seen the lead story in this week’s Warminster Journal about the confusion surrounding the status of a play area on the large Grovelands Estate.
Outdoor play is a vital part of a healthy childhood and there is ample evidence from across the country that children’s play is becoming less and less for of a variety of reasons, one of which is lack of play areas.
“It was for this reason that on Tuesday evening while attending the Warminster area board I suggested that we create a play strategy for Warminster,” said former county councillor Steve Dancey.
“At this point Conservative councillor Keith Humphries got up and told me we already have one.
“We don’t - the soon to be defunct West Wilts has one, allegedly, but Warminster doesn’t.
“Now we find that there’s all sort of problems concerning ownership at Groveland years after the estate was completed.”
Mr Humphries said he wished we knew what was happening in the Journal - so do we. Not much of a strategy.
West Wilts, including councillors, have failed children and failed in their duty to secure this play area 15 years after the development took place.
WHAT MORE EVIDENCE DOES HE REQUIRE THAT THE TOWN NEEDS ITS OWN PLAY STRATEGY?
