Temperatures in the 70s hit deliverers in their 50s

(May 29, 2009)

WITH less than a week left until polling day the last big session of leafleting has been taking place with the biggest problem being risk of sunstroke rather than the blisters of last week.

On Friday Steve and Paul delivered 600 plus election leaflets in the  Prestbury Drive, St John’s Road, Highbury Park, The Dene, Boreham Field and Ridgeway areas of Warminster East.

During the afternoon Paul continued with canvassing and popped into Kyngston Court for a chat with the folk in the sheltered accommodation at one of their regular meetings - then off to deliver another 200 leaflets.

Steve was door knocking in Ruskin Drive - but it was hot work.

“The pattern is much the same as on previous days with a warm welcome from many people who had read our proposals either on-line, in the Journal or in our election addresses,” said Steve.

“I’ve even been stopped by complete strangers in the town centre who have said they were supporting me - mainly because we have been talking about local issues in the local elections.

“The political parties don’t seem to get it as they want to press their national agendas at a local election when people have real concerns at local level, especially in Warminster.

“This, coupled with the furore about MPs expenses, leaves us looking forward to a good result come election day.”

* UNLIKE IN PREVIOUS ELECTIONS THE VOTE WILL NOT BE COUNTED UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY in Trowbridge.
A TIME CONSUMING VERIFICATION PROCESS WILL TAKE UP MOST OF THE MORNING AND IT MAY BE AS LATE AS 5PM ON FRIDAY WHEN THE LAST RESULTS ARE DECLARED.

THE EURO VOTE WILL NOT BE COUNTED UNTIL SUNDAY.
