WITH almost weekly reports of British soldiers losing their lives in Afghanistan it was no surprise that the turnout at the annual remembrance service was larger than usual this year.
Among those attending were the Queen's representative in Wiltshire, Lord Lieutenant Mr John Bush, and local MP Dr Andrew Murrison.
The parade marched from Station Road through Market Place, High Street and into The Close before reaching the war memorial in Portway at 3pm.
It was led by a company of soldiers from The Yorkshire Regiment based at Battlesbury Barracks and a light cavalry band.
In addition to the usual participants such as the Royal British Legion, police, fire service, scouts, cadets and guides there was a splendid motorcyle squadron from the Bristish Legion led by a trike.
After the usual ceremony, which included the Last Post, the Kohima Address, prayers and hymns the soldier marched off to a ripple of applause from the large crowd.
