HOT SNIPPETS - town council/radio/planning
(November 15, 2009)Town Council.... A civic leader who was widely
applauded for her two terms of office as Mayor of Warminster and is
well known locally for her charity work is set to be granted a special
dispensation to keep her office as a town councillor.
Veronica Burden suddenly suffered a life threatening illness
nearly six months ago and has been unable to attend town council
meetings.
Local government rules have led to an item being added to the
agenda of the full town council meeting on Monday night asking her
eleven colleagues to grant her an 'extension of absence'. until May
2010.
Warminster Community Radio.... A fresh look to
their current studios which added the 'R' to the former use of the
public WC at the Assembly Hall will open on Monday.
The popular WCR radio station which is usually available all year
round on the internet may still take a little longer to re-appear.
They are still asking for fundraising ideas as they have made the
cration of a state-of-the-art complex at the local community school
their next project.
Western Area Planning Committee.... One of the
most important meetings about the future of Warminster for a decade or
more will be held in Trowbridge on Wednesday night starting at 6pm.
The new (Tory) Wiltshire Council allows public participation but
it is restricted to three speakers in favour and three against.
"I hope that does not put anyone against going," added Paul. " If
a lot of people register by the 5.30pm cut-off point to speak against
then that will send a clear message.
"We do not object to Stockland wanting to improve shoping in their mall but there has to be more talks."
