Sambourne road safety - forgotten after election but not by us

(November 25, 2003)

A MAJOR  road safety issue has been put back on the agenda by the local authority after a former councillor reminded the public that the public had heard nothing about it for eight months.

In March this year school mum Ellie Pope (pictured) presented a petition petcalling for a safe crossing at Sambourne School at a meeting attended by former councillor Paul Macdonald.

'What is happening about replacing these speed humps that seem to fall apart regularly with the crossing that the locals are asking for?' wrote Paul in a visionforwarminster.co.uk hot topic (13th November).

He once again questions the commitment of the current councillors to dealing with local issues as they chair or sit on their committees drawing thousands of pounds in allowed for expenses.

"When was the last time you saw your councillor out and about?" he asks. "Would you even know your councillor by sight to stop them and point out your concerns?"

'Unsafe road for children crossing to Sambourne school' was added to the Wiltshire Council area board issues list yesterday (23rd November) and is the only Warminster item since 25th September.

"Sadly this almost certainly too late for this week's area board meeting in Warminster which means another winter will probably go by with nothing done," added Paul.

*The urgent action call was made a hot topic (March 16th) when 290 signatures were presented.
