New charity and public meeting on town hall planned for 15 October

(July 28, 2010)

A NEW charity is to be set up to look after the interests of Warminster's Town Hall.

The Friends of Warminster Town Hall will need trustees, many of whom are expected to come from the membership of the Town's Civic Trust.

The trust has been behind a number of successful restoration projects in Warminster over the last 20 years, although this will be the largest yet.

A meeting to assess the level of public support for the plan has been called on 15 October - provisionally in the Assembly Rooms.

Before that the Town Hall will be open to the public as part of the Heritage Open Days over the weekend of 9 to 12 September.

''Colliers CRE - the selling agents for the banks - have agreed to let us organise a public viewing of the interior of and they are taking our proposal to purchase seriously,'' said Civic Trust chairman Michael Heaton.

''The week or so before the heritage Open Days, a Civic Trust 'task force'  will tidy up the interior so it is safe for the  public.''
