Developing homes but not a community

(March 15, 2011)
VFW has proof that Sainsbury's are interested in coming to the western side of Warminster - but is the development being frustrated by the antics of housing developers led by Persimmon?
The west of the town is devoid of almost all services, despite thousands of new homes springing up so why haven't the new facilities arrived?
At last lead housebuilder Persimmon is being challenged to honour its pledges by local residents, councillors, former councillors and the constituency MP.
"I have been now asked to get Persimmon to deliver on another of their pledges after they took over the Grovelands Way development and Sainsbury's is the other major name," says Warminster community campaigner Paul Macdonald.
"I am heartened by the response from our MP Andrew Murrison who has informed me that he has penned a second letter to Persimmon Homes.
''I now have the proof that 'new retail units were going to be on sale or to let' adjacent to J. Sainsbury Convenience Store' in Victoria Road Warminster. (Click here)
It is described as a redevelopment of a prominent roadside site and would give a hot food takeway alongside another small unit as well as 'Sainsbury''.
"This is quite clearly the former Warren King site which is currently a pile of rubble from the internet photo and plans I have printed off," says former councillor Paul Macdonald.
"This yet another example of the councils not holding developers to their commitments in the area. Nothing has appeared but a pile of rubble.
"Along with their other pledges to the local school, road safety, landscaping, and their outrageous application to bulldoze Albion House we now need everyone to write to the MP backing him up as he joins in.
"They are now adding yet more back land development at Victoria Fields and planning their gross act of street-scene vandalism against Albion Farmhouse the historic egg man house'.

A sad footnote to all of this is that the turnout at local elections in this electoral division is about 29 per cent compared to 39 per cent elsewhere in Warminster - all down to the lack of site for a convenient polling station  (so much for democracy).
"Again development of homes but not a community."
