Reply still awaited from County Hall

(March 28, 2011)
VFW is still waiting for a response from County Hall  about our request for a free re-run of the parish poll -  or a complaint to an ombudsman.

Town councillors ignored a tape recording of their pledge to abide by the result of the mega-loan' vote.

The poll held last year was overwhelming. Over 90 in 100 voters who turned out to the question said no to the spending on the Assembly Hall.

"On Thursday May 5th our town will turn out for a referendum which poses the question 'At present, the UK uses the 'first past the post' system to elect MPs to the House of Commons. Should the 'alternative vote' system be used instead', says Paul Macdonald

"Would we in Warminster also like to say again to councillors on the same day think again?"

Many townsfolk questioned the 'consultation exercise' PR campaign designed to give them the result they wanted to no avail and for a while in dominated the pages of the local newspaper.

"Our referendum could be 'At present, the town council uses Dewey House donated to the town to run our parish council responsibilities. Should so much mony be spent on the Assembly Rooms to achieve the same end?' adds Paul.

The huge row that brought a major public confrontation between the public including former Mayors, Deputy Mayors and councillors did not stop Warminster Town Council (see hot topics).

*In Bradford-on-avon the 'bridge question' has left many with a bad taste in their mouth. The town could also see a re-run of their parish poll question.
