Green light for Portway Lane Housing schemes

(August 27, 2013)

TWO proposed housing schemes in the Portway Lane area of Warminster are set to be approved by Wiltshire Council.

Planning officials have recommended that the Selwood Housing Association proposal to replace unused garages at Epping Close with two dwellings and build six homes on land behind Savernake Close should go ahead - despite town  council objections.

County members meet at County Hall to resolve the matter on 4 September after local member Pip Ridout 'called in' the application for councillors' determination.

Town councillors had been particularly unhappy about the larger scheme arguing that there would be a loss of recreational space and possible danger to children because of a poor access.

Officers however have weighed these objections and found them insufficient grounds to refuse the applications - pointing out that a large recreational space is available nearby.

Members of the public can attend and speak if they give advance notice. The meeting starts at 6pm.
