A group of residents, parents and teachers have once again demanded action along a stretch of Woodcock Road in Warminster that has already seen one petition accepted by the town council last year.
Another petition presented to the council this year requesting a Zebra Crossing at St. George's School saw a mixed reaction. One member of the town development committee telling them to go away and prepare a 'travel plan'.
"I suggested that two town councillors be asked to go to the school as a regular point of contact and urgently discuss temporary solutions to improve road safety while we wait for the 'travel plan' bureaucracy to run its course but it was turned down," said Councillor Paul Macdonald.
The town council did vote to 'arrange a liaison meeting between the town clerk, local councillors, the head teacher Louise Croker, and Wiltshire Council travel officers'.
Pedestrian Safety in the Central Car Park
Warminster town councillors have angered that the parking situation outside the Avenue Surgery in the central car park has become 'desperate and dangerous' voted to offer cash to encourage the county council to act.
"I have had everyone from mums with toddlers, old age pensioners to taxi drivers complain to me as have many other councillors," explains Cllr. Paul Macdonald.
"We are all united on this issue but it is a county responsibility but there was a hold up while someone there was pinned down to take responsibility.
"A yellow line request can now go forward as the complexities of who that is have now been sorted out.
"The paperwork is now being forwarded with an offer of a £500 contribution towards getting the Traffic Regulation Order needed.
"In the meantime we need to find a way to encourage drivers to show better consideration for other road users and pedestrians."
