Co-op shop set to transform Victoria Road eyesore
(November 11, 2014)CO-OP shopping could be returning to Warminster. The mutual organisation's agents Topoffer have submitted a plan to revitalise the former car dealership and petrol station site on Victoria Road.
The site has been dormant for many years and formerly housed a VW dealership.
The proposal from Co-op will see a 4,000 sq ft retail shop and two smaller shop units plus eight dwellings.
Co-op say the new facility will provide much needed top-up shopping in an area which currently has little choice. It will be sustainable and not threaten the vitality and viability of the town centre (Wiltshire Council is doing enough of that with its parking charges).
The applicants say 'The proposed development has been sensitively designed to integrate into the surrounding area. The dwellings are a mixture of two and three bedrooms which are configured as traditional house types. The proposals are of a high design standard and consequently there proposals accord with planning policy in terms of design.'
Cllr Steve Dancey, said: "This site has been an eyesore for many years and this application from Co-op, a popular ethical retailer with a reputation for being a good neighbour, is to be welcomed. I hope it leads to a swift transformation of the area."
People have until 12 December to comment on the application, which is in line with planning policy guidelines.
